I was told at my pelvic ultrasound that I have ovarian cysts and they are testing me for polycystic ovaries. Does it mean that I will need frequent visits to the gynocologist and the doctor? I dont know nothing about it until I speak to my doctor next to explain what ovarian cysts actually are? I have never been to a gynocologist before either so I am a little apprehensive.

Hi, I have always had normal paps, including one I had a few months ago. However, I have been getting uterine/ovarian twinges a few times a day throughout the month (not just before ovulation) and someone suggested it might be cysts. If you’ve been diagnosed with cysts, how did they find them at first? Was it through an abnormal pap, or some other way? Thank you!

I went for a normal checkup to the gyno and she saw them with the sonar.

I recently had a check up done with the gynecologist and she said I’ve got ovarian cysts. The usual treatment for this is taking birth control but I don’t really want to do this. Is there another way I can get rid of them? Or if I don’t take them, what are the consequences of not treating it? Should I be worried?

Usually taking the birth control will shrink the cysts and they will go away (providing your gynaecologist is correct that they are not harmful cysts) I would take the birth control it is not going to hurt you. Consequences of them not being treated is commonly that they may grow bigger and then you may require surgery to remove them. I’d personally rather have them shrink away than go through surgery

i was diagnosed with ovarian cysts at 15 and as i have researched the matter further i have come to know that this may affect my chance of becoming pregnant.

not necessarily. Ovarian cysts are normal…but if you have polycystic ovarian syndrome then you have a hormone imbalance…lack of periods, weight gain, excessive facial hair, etc. Women with PCOS may have a more difficult time of getting pregnant but it is not impossible…usually with drugs the ovulation can be induced to conceive. If you have any symptoms of pcos its important to get treated as soon as possible to increase the chances of fertility and decrease the chances of diabetes and heart disease.

My friend was recently diagnosed with ovarian cysts. She started bleeding today, but she has some pain in her lower stomach. Not extreme pain, but only some. Does anyone know what that means? Or if it’s normal?

Hey, I had two ovarian cysts, 1 four years a go and 1 two years ago. they were causing me o bleed also, and they were causing me pain to. the easiest way to deal with them(according to me) is to just get them removed. it depends on how big they are. mine were kinda big, so i had them removed with surgery. there are other ways you can remove them though, like with a pill or or a lazer or something… but that’s all i know. good luck!

I have a cyst on my ovary and I have heard that taking birth control pills helps with ovarian cysts. Does the Nuva Ring not do this?

I don’t know about the Nuva ring, but I JUST asked my doctor about this a week ago.

He said if I continued to take my pill I would probably never have the problem, as the pill prevents them from developing.
