My son had abdominal tumors scattered throughout the abdominal cavity, diaphragm, spleen, liver, colon, pelvis . . stage IV . . he was treated using high dose chemotherapy, surgical debulking and intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemoperfusion (which removed all visible disease). After nine months he was no evidence of disease and continued for another nine months. He relapsed after two years. I mention this because his type of cancer in females is often mistaken for ovarian cancer . . and the treatments can be similar. And, I have known one young female who was stage IV and is now in remission going on five years. She is now going to college and engaged to be married. So it is possible.

Unfortunately at any stage there is no guarantee no matter what treatment is done or not done. Treatment is a chance . . the only chance a stage IV patient will have of achieving remission and eventual cure. There are patients out there who have done this . . but there is no ‘cure’ for metastatic cancer . .only treatment that can lead to an individual ‘remission’.

The prognosis for untreated ovarian cancer is extremely poor.

The pill greatly reduces my sex drive.To the point where I no longer ever masturbate. I don’t really initiate sex (because even if I want to do so, I’m discouraged that my body just doesn’t respond much). I am 21!

Of course my boyfriend has noticed a big change, since I was often initiating sex before, often horny. Now he feels undesired. Not that I don’t have sex with him anymore, I do. But I guess he is disappointed that I am not that "wild thing" I was before.

They prescribed me codeine, which really does not help whatsoever.

Well apparently this is caused by ovarian cysts, and the pill is the only treatment to shrink and or prevent these and so far it has done that!

So I am too scared to stop the pill. Maybe after a couple of years like 2-3 years, I will see if things have changed.

But everytime my boyfriend talks about how we don’t have sex as much as before, I want to cry. I am so sad I am not as satisfying to him as I was before. Of course I don’t neglect him, but I guess he can’t help but be hurt that I am not jumping on him like I did before, or that I can’t orgasm as easily so I don’t all the time anymore (the pill causes that too).

He kind of understands and doesn’t really give me grief about it, but I am just so sad and don’t know what to do. I am also bothered by not having as much desire myself, kind of sucks at this age.

What would you do in my situation.

Well, you could see a doctor and tell him about the lack of sex drive. There may be a way he can help with that.

Otherwise, your personal health comes before your boyfriend’s need for sex. Obviously.

You just need to sit him down and tell him that you’re sorry, but there’s nothing you can do about it. Its not his fault, but you have to take it to stay healthy. Ovarian cysts, if left unchecked, could lead to cancer, and neither of you wants to deal with that. So he’ll just have to get over it, or get creative. Tantric sex is good in this kind of situation.

Your other option is that every once and a while you might want to fake it, a lay back and think of england kind of deal. It will make him feel less insecure, and it wouldn’t kill you to do it once in a while even if you weren’t in the mood. Unless it hurts you, in which case forget about it. You could always give him a handy or oral too, once in a while. Little effort by you, and no penetration, but considered an actual and awesome sex act by most men.

I’m baffled as to why I have suddenly started having problems every single month! I’m hoping the current cyst is a remnant of last month’s ovulation and that once the pill makes me stop ovulating, I’ll get some relief. Lyss, I’m sorry to say I don’t have a hard and fast answer for your problem. I have, however, sat through many a pain-filled night with my girlfriend recently, so I do have a little familiarity with it. Her symptoms were pretty much the same as yours. Changing out her birth control pill didn’t accomplish much of anything. She found some website a couple months ago that seems to have helped a lot. "Normalizing" hormones by simply giving you synthetic hormone pills (birth control pills) violates the basic principle of healing. Instead, whenever possible, you should strive to normalize the hormones on your own. In your case, by changing your diet, you can start on the road to healing.

The reason why changing to a diet based on the principles of "Nourishing Traditions," a book by Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, Ph.D. is the first step in the therapy of PCOS. Your ovaries need the animal fats, and yes, even the cholesterol found in food in order to make estrogen and progesterone, the correct female hormones.

Swollen ovaries is a condition analogous to goiter, when the thyroid swells in response to iodine deficiency. Goiters often also result in a hormonal imbalance leading to hypothyroidism. In the case of PCOS, the starvation of the ovaries causes them to become cystic, swollen and eventually unable to regulate the synthesis of their hormones.

The other main dietary trigger for this imbalance is that when the proper dietary fats are missing, they are inevitably replaced by excessive carbohydrate consumption. This results in excessive insulin production, weight gain, abdominal bloating, and eventually will itself cause hormonal shifts. The biochemistry of this process is well described in the book, "The Schwarzbein Principle" which also suggests a diet based on the principles in the book, "Nourishing Traditions," along with a restriction to about 75 grams of carbohydrates per day. More good fats and fewer carbohydrate foods should help in restoring your hormones to their proper balance.

In addition to the dietary program, there are many natural nutrients that I have been shown in the medical literature to help PCOS. The first is the protomorphogen extract from Standard Process called Symplex F. This is a mixture of specially processed glandular extracts from the four organs that make up the so-called pituitary axis–the pituitary, thyroid, adrenal glands and the ovaries. We now know that these glands compensate for each other, and that they all get ill as a group. I usually recommend taking 1-2 tablets per day for one whole year to help normalize the function of these important organs. You should be able to get the Symplex F from your local pharmacy.

The final therapy that I recommend for PCOS is a 50/50 mixture of the herbal extracts of Peony lactiflora and Glycyrrhiza uralensis (commonly known as licorice). There have been three studies in the literature showing that this combination of herbs can result in a complete remission in PCOS, and that it does so by normalizing adrenal function and reducing testosterone levels. It is important to use the correct amounts that were also indicated in these studies. I recommend the Mediherb extracts and suggest 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of the mixture, 2-3 times per day. I usually suggest using this mixture for six months with breaks of a week or two every 4-6 weeks."

The last girl I suggested this too, had complete change in acne production, her hair became normal, and she lost her oily skin in 3 weeks. Birth control pills are the worst way to deal with PCOS. EDIT: To address the other poster: Yes, it is strongly suggested you work with a nutritional therapist with this issue to monitor the progress, etc. and as I said, it is also important to use the exact amounts of product for best results. I would be interested in any literature indicating licorice to be associated with miscarriage. That is not well known in the literature and I suspect it is from excessive use.

All types of ovarian cancer cause pretty much the same symptoms (if any) and the same treatment which depends on the stage of the cancer, the most common type of ovarian cancer in teens is called germ cell ovarian cancer (1 out of every 10 ovarian cancers are germ cell) and although i can’t get exact information about this specific type of cancer i have found one for ovarian cancer which you can use because the treatment and symptoms are pretty much the same in all types of ovarian cancer.

Conventional medicine has really only 3 approaches to treating ovarian cysts – wait and see (& hope that it goes away itself), birth control pills, or surgery. All 3 options fail to address the underlying cause of the cyst, which means that even if it does go away (or is removed) it is quite likely to come back again.

Green tea is a rich natural source of fluoride, which most of the people telling you cancer can be treated with food will tell you is a poison. Apple cider vinegar won’t do you any harm, but again its "popularity" was created by someone trying to sell a book.

Your mother needs either surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or a combination thereof…she should take advice from an oncologist, not a "natural remedies" quack.

You would not DREAM (I hope!) of trying to treat a broken leg with Green tea, apple cider vinegar, or magic Egyptian beans….why would it even cross your mind that you could effectively treat cancer with anything other than actual medicine?
