I had it removed along with my left ovary.
All the pain, bloating and heavy bleeding is gone.

Yes it was worth it.

My only regret is that no found out what was going on in my body when I was younger. But, on the bright side I now know why I didn’tt have any children. The grapefruit sized cyst was covering up my walnut sized left ovary.

So, take care of yourself and don’t accept everything they tell you get a second opinion asked for the latest technology.

Taking my new doctors advice and getting a sonogram is what solved my problem.

You need to go back to your doctor or see another one who cares about your health and tell you the truth and gives you options.

I know someone who had 1 ovary removed due to cysts. Some docs wanted to do a full hysterectomy, but she got one who only took out the 1 ovary that was a problem. I'd research it on the internet too and yahoo has alternative groups you can join and ask questions on there.

I dont really know what you can take but I hope you can get rid of it ASAP because I have them it the pain was SOOO bad!! I went to the emergency room and they told me they had burst

Irregular periods are bigger problem than having one ovary. if periods are normal then one can have as many babies as you want from one ovary . What is the type of irregularity ? are periods usually delayed or the come very frequently like in every two weeks or so. What is ur weight & height. Any tests you have undergone . Send me as much information as you can on narain1949@yahoo.com and let me see if I can be of any help. As for as cyst , if its really dermoid then I am afraid that surgery is the only option ( by Laproscope ) .

Dermoids often cause no symptoms and are noted as an enlargement of the ovary on a routine pelvic exam. However, they may twist on themselves and cause severe pain, and occasionally they rupture, producing peritonitis, or irritation of the abdominal and pelvic cavity. In order to prevent these complications, it’s best to remove dermoids when they are found. The surgery will involve removing the dermoid itself; unless it involves the entire ovary, the rest of the ovary is left behind.

Removal of a dermoid should not affect your fertility.
you will still ovulate, and you may become pregnant

Go to a doctor and ask what you could do about it i been detected with a 15 cm cyst the size of an orange and they told me it can eigther go away by itself or get rid of it if it keeps growing is better to get rid of it with surgery more so the other ovary wont be afected sex does not cause it is the best thing more if you can because with other symptoms it can be something else.. good luck

It depends on the symptoms and what you want to do.

If you don’t want to get pregnant and are a healthy weight they will often prescribe the pill to regulate periods and help with some of the other symptoms.

If you are overweight they may prescribe metaformin.

If you want to get pregnant they generally leave you to try until you have been TTC for a year then will pursue fertility treatment options like clomid.

No. there are no alternatives to having the dermoid cyst (also known as cystic teratoma) removed. It is my understanding that a dermoid cyst is comprised of improperly formed fetal tissues that were supposed to be your twin while your mother was pregnant with you, instead of this 'twin' forming properly, it just ceases at some point in development (sometimes not being discovered until the living twin has some sort of problem herself). IT needs to be removed as it becomes dangerous to your own body, its a foreign object that will cause your immune system to go haywire. That said, once its been removed there is a very good chance that you will be able to bear children. Even in the case where you might lose one ovary, as long as you have one functioning ovary, fallopian tube and properly working uterus, pregnancies can be achieved. So, the best outcome will be achieved if you correctly follow your doctors orders. Just get this taken care of so that you can go on to live a healthy, happy life. Good luck.

SOME RARE OVARIAN CYSTS (CALLED CORPUS LUTEUM CYSTS) SECRETE HCG AND TURN FALSE POSITIVE HPT!! EVEN YOU WILL HAVE ALL COMMONLY KNOWN PREGNANCY LIKE EXTERNAL/BEHAVIORAL SYMPTOMS!!

BUT THIS SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH PCOS CYSTS (MOST COMMONLY ENCOUNTERED). PCOS may cause False Positive OPK but cannot turn False Positive HPT. So, you need to know which kind of Ovarian Cysts you have?

False Positive HPT can also happen for Gonadotropin Medicines (APL, Pregnyl, Humegon, Profasi, Novarel etc.) used for infertility treatment; Early miscarriage (Chemical Pregnancy); Ovarian/Uterus Cancers (e.g. Choriocarcinoma); and Pituitary gland disorders.

Urine HPT will come positive when Blood HCG level >=25 mIU/ml (some HPT brands follow 50-100 mIU/ml cover line). But if you could have Serum Beta (Quantitative) HCG Test and Serum Progesterone blood-test, then looking at the exact quantity of these pregnancy hormones better prediction is possible! Should this is a case of successful pregnancy, these hormone-volumes will cumulatively increase in every 48-72 hours ! BEST OF LUCK!!
