I am 16, and have recently found out that I have a 13x9x7 dermoid ovarian cyst.
What should I expect from the gynecologist? I have never been to one before, so I am a bit nervous.
My appointment is on Wednesday at 3:30
Thank you!
It really does depend on the gynaecologist you see. When I was admitted into hospital because of the pain of my dermoid cystic mass, she did a pelvic exam and a pap smear. I was 17 years old. Then I had an appointment with another gynaecologist and he didn’t do anything. He just spoke to me and told me he wanted to do surgery to remove it which I had at the end of June. He may or may not do an internal exam, but if he knows the measurements and exactly what type of cyst it is and all your symptoms, that enough will be able to help him determine the next step. Good luck
Two days before my period was due, I had to go to the hospital bc an ovarian cyst i didnt know i had ruptured. Friday was one week since it happened. On sunday morning i had some cramps but no period.
Can this cause me to miss a period? They took a urine sample AND did an external and internal ultrasound. Wouldnt they have seen if i was pregnant?
is better to consult an expert… He will help you.
When i was 13 (im 15 now) i got an ovarian cyst on my left ovary. It was pretty big and it got twisted around 3 times. I never had any symptoms except for one morning i got up before school and i just had a really sharp pain. I had surgery the next morning to remove it. I read up about it because i wasnt really sure what it was and i read that it usually occurs in woman during their child bearing years. What would be the cause of me getting it?
An ovarian cyst is any collection of fluid, surrounded by a very thin wall, within an ovary. Any ovarian follicle that is larger than about two centimeters is termed an ovarian cyst. An ovarian cyst can be as small as a pea, or larger than a cantaloupe.
Most ovarian cysts are functional in nature, and harmless (benign). In the US, ovarian cysts are found in nearly all premenopausal women, and in up to 14.8% of postmenopausal women. The incidence of ovarian carcinoma is approximately 15 cases per 100,000 women per year.
Ovarian cysts affect women of all ages. They occur most often, however, during a woman’s childbearing years.
Some ovarian cysts cause problems, such as bleeding and pain. Surgery may be required to remove those cysts."

It happened because you are in your childbearing years, which just means the years when your ovaries are working. It can happen for no particular reason other than that. See, every month, as your ovaries work, they produce a cyst. It’s normal. That cyst releases hormones and then is supposed to shrink and go away. But sometimes it doesn’t. It stays around and fills with fluid, kind of like a pimple on your face. And then it grows and grows. As it gets bigger it gets heavier, which can cause your ovary to spin a bit so that the heaviest part–the cyst–is at the bottom, which can cause it to get twisted. Your body makes a lot of hormones during puberty, and those hormones stimulate your ovaries to have lots of activity. This stimulation can sometimes cause cysts. A way to prevent this, if you are prone to cysts, is to use birth control pills, which cause your ovarian activity to reduce.
How do I get rid of painful ovarian cysts naturally?? What do I avoid to make them shrink?
There are 3 possible approaches to ovarian cysts with conventional medicine – do nothing & hope it goes away itself, birth control, or surgery. None of them address the underlying causes that led to the cyst coming in the first place.
It is possible to treat ovarian cysts naturally – many women have had success with the natural holistic approach to treating ovarian cysts. The idea is to get your internal hormonal balance right (cysts are caused by hormonal imbalance, that’s why birth control works) mainly by changing your diet and avoiding particular foods and household products. If you can get this balance right, you can get rid of your cysts without surgery and for good.
There’s a good article below with more information about natural treatment methods – hope this helps.
I had an ovarian cyst that burst the other day and i just got my period and my cramps hurt so bad. Is this normal? How can i minimize the pain?
I’m in wrong category extremely sorry can’t help u babe!
I know my answer making ll make u boil.
I have ovarian cysts and am terrified of surgery so I don’t plan on getting them out unless it poses a threat to my health. But I was just wondering, does having large cysts decrease my chances of becoming pregnant?
It can decrease the chances, yes.
Most women with cysts find it easiest to conceive right after ending birth control since the BC also helps control the cysts!
It is still possible to conceive w/ the cysts – but more difficult
Your best option – talk to your dr., about what is best for YOU in this situation
I have had numerous ovarian cysts, some have ruptured and some haven’t but my doctor never has mentioned polycystic ovarian syndrome..what exactly is it? How do you get it? And what’s the difference?
Getting cysts means you occasionally get cysts for no clear reason.
Polycystic Ovaries (PCOS) is a specific syndrome that entails a lot of problems, of which the cysts are one symptom. Those with PCOS have insulin insensitivity (a pre-diabetic condition) and also they have too much testosterone and not enough estrogen. This causes other problems like obesity, hairiness, skin darkening in certain areas, infertility, etc. The cysts they get have a particular "chain of pearls" appearance because the cysts of PCOS are caused by a particular combination of factors. But if you just have cysts on your ovaries, you have none of these other factors.
I went to the hospital because I keep getting ovarian cysts and they told me to get birth control. When I went to the gynecologist the nurse and doctor were actually pretty mean to me and they thought I just wanted birth control for sex and didn’t listen to anything I had to say about the cysts. They just gave me a three month sample of Loestrin. I believe it worked at first, but now I’m on the third month and I’m pretty sure I have another cysts. What brand of birth control will help stop these?
Your gyno sounds horrible!!!! They should not do that! You should get a new one, and talk to them about what kind of bc would be best for you. Good luck!
my doctor has suggested i have an ovarian cyst which has been causing me pain and causing other symptoms such as : painful period, dizziness, drowsiness and pain also going down my leg and slight constipation.
i was wondering what sort of cysts this could be (if it is one at all) and what the treatment options would be for any of these cysts??
Surely your Doctor can answer this question. I wouldn’t want people telling me that are not qualified to answer. Good luck with your problem hope it turns out in a positive way.
